Boogie
At the beginning of 20s the black workers
who travelled through Texas played piano for fun. Step by step the music
fit the sound of the bogy of the train and created the Boogie Woogie
rhythm.
In fact this music started to be famous
in the 30s. The first concert “From Spiritual to Swing” was organised in
Carnegie Hall in New York. Boogie Woogie was broadcasted all the time on
the radio and White people finally discovered this music. At that time
many of the Jazz Bands included Boogie Woogie song in their tunes.
Boogie Woogie is in fact a part a Jazz
music family and also a dance.
The Boogie Woogie dance is a European
evolution of Lindy Hop. Very close to Lindy, The Boogie is first of all
an interpretation dance and instead of doing figures and figures (like
in French Rock’n’Roll) you must let you lead by instruments, singers and
your own feeling of the music.
From the slowest to the fastest rhythm,
Boogie is focused on improvisation and musical interpretation. There are
lots of figures close to the French Rock’n’Roll but it is a little bit
more energetic and rich in feet games and moreover in game between
leaders and followers.
The fun and harmony with the music turns
into addictives all the people who have tried…
Usually people who dance Rock’n ‘Roll and
want to improve their style finally move to the Boogie but you do not
need to know Rock’n ‘Roll to start Boogie, you can start from scratch
without knowing any dance.
